Teaching and Research: Teacher Workshops

ANNUAL CoE WORKSHOPS ON TEACHING THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE

The Committee on Education Workshops at the HSS annual meetings feature creative teaching methods that work. Both college and pre-college educators will find ideas and materials which can be used in their classes. Live demonstrations and informative handouts are featured. Our past programs have featured the following topics:

  • Michael J, Crowe, University of Notre Dame, “Investigating the Ways of Nature: An In-Class Experiment.”
  • Lisa Rosner, Richard Stockton College, “Is there Phlogiston in the House? Demonstrating 18th Century Chemistry in a History of Science Survey.”
  • Barbara Welther, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, “Hands-On History for Astronomy Students.”
  • Barbara J. Becker, MindWorks Project Director, “MindWorks: Making Scientific Concepts Come Alive.”
HSS 2000 Annual Meeting Workshop: “Teaching Controversial Topics in the History of Science.”
