WELCOME TO SAN DIEGO!

The 2012 History of Science Society meeting will be held on November 15-18, 2012 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. We will be meeting jointly with the Philosophy of Science Association.

Meeting Registration

Online registrations are now closed. All registrations after 1 November must be done onsite. The onsite registration prices are:

Joint Meeting with the Philosophy of Science Assocation

The History of Science Society’s Annual Meeting will be held jointly with the biennial meeting of the Philosophy of Science Association.

The deadline for contributed paper proposals for the PSA meeting has passed. For more information on the meeting and other announcements, please visit the PSA website here.

Meeting Hotel Information

The 2012 HSS Annual Meeting will be held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina.

Rooms for the Meeting are $149/night for single- and double-occupancy. Taxes will bring the nightly total to roughly $168. To receive the conference rate, you must reserve your room no later than 14 October 2012.

There will be a block of rooms reserved for graduate students at a reduced rate of $99/night (roughly $112/night after taxes). As of 1 September, the graduate student room block has been filled. If you would like to be added to a waiting list, please contact info@hssonline.org. You do not need to be a member of HSS or PSA to claim a spot on the waiting list.

Traveling to San Diego

If you would prefer to use a travel agent instead of making your own travel arrangements, we suggest using Gladieux Travel. The website can be found here; they charge a flat $25 fee per booking.

Planes

San Diego is served by San Diego International Airport (SAN), which is less than a mile from the meeting hotel.

Trains

The San Diego train station is serviced by Amtrak. The station is about 2.5 miles from the meeting hotel.

Automobiles

San Diego can be reached via Interstates 5, 8, or 15.

Travel Grants from the National Science Foundation

Travel grant awardees may download the reimbursement form here. Note that the form is stored on a box.com account – click on the download button at the upper right of the page. Please be sure to read the instructions on page 2 carefully when completing the form, and include all necessary receipts. Please mail all of your materials to the HSS Executive Office so that it arrives no later than 15 December 2012.

As in past years, the History of Science Society has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to help fund travel to meeting participants who are graduate students, independent scholars or recent PhDs. These grants can be used for travel to and from the meeting as well as registration costs. Unlike in past years, only U.S. citizens and individuals from U.S. institutions are eligible. The deadline for submissions has passed; applicants will be notified soon via email regarding awards.

HSS Business Meeting

All HSS members are invited to attend the HSS Business Meeting on Sunday, 18 November, in Executive Center 3A/3B at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. You can view the meeting agenda here.
