Caltech seeks an innovative leader for its Archives and Special Collections. Driven by the preeminence of its faculty past and present, and groundbreaking research across a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines, Caltech is one of the leading scientific institutions in the world. As the Caltech Archives approaches its 50th anniversary, the University Archivist and Head, Special Collections will provide leadership in focusing the Archives as a research collection that is broadly known and used, that is integrated into the community of history of science and technology collections worldwide, and that is responsive to current research and information trends and tools both within and outside of academia.
The University Archivist and Head, Special Collections has primary curatorial responsibility for all activities related to collection acquisition, description, preservation and access. The Archivist will engage with current collections—from physics to chemistry to biology to seismology, engineering, aerospace, and astronomy—in order to promote and interpret these collections to the public and to scholars.
