The Board of Directors of the Chemical Heritage Foundation (newly merged with Life Sciences Foundation in San Francisco) invites nominations and applications for the position of President of the Foundation. The President is the chief executive and administrative officer of the Foundation and serves ex officio on the Foundation’s Board of Directors and all of its committees.

The Chemical Heritage Foundation is based in Philadelphia and is one of the world’s preeminent institutions devoted to fostering an understanding of the impact of the chemical enterprise on society. An independent, nonprofit organization, the Foundation strives to:

  • Preserve and tell the story of chemistry, the life sciences, and their technologies and industries across centuries;
  • Highlight the role of the life sciences, chemistry and chemical engineering in meeting current social challenges; and
  • Inspire a passion for the history of science and technology.

The Foundation maintains major collections of historical instruments, fine art, photographs, papers, and books. It also hosts conferences and lectures, supports research, runs a robust awards program, offers fellowships, and produces educational materials. Its museum and public programs explore subjects ranging from alchemy to nanotechnology.

The Board seeks a visionary leader of national/international reputation (i) with demonstrated strengths as a communicator and fund-raiser, (ii) with cultural breadth and curiosity, and an appreciation for the history of science, (iii) with the ambition and entrepreneurial spirit capable of elevating the national and international prominence of the Foundation. The salary will be competitive with major foundations of CHF’s size.
