The Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of American History, Kenneth E. Behring Center, Division of Work and Industry seeks an historian of technology familiar with U.S. expansion/empire, environmental history, and/or the built environment. The incumbent will evaluate historic collections in civil and mechanical engineering, help chart a path forward for digital access, create exhibitions as part of a team, and build collections. We welcome scholars versed in gender or race histories.

Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to think and interpret material culture and archival resources related to engineering. Experience working with material culture or in museums is a plus. ABD or recent Ph.D. in American Studies, History, Public Humanities, or Science and Technology Studies is required.

This is a Trust (non-Federal) position limited to a five-year term.
Starting salary:  IS-12 – $83,398 annually, plus an excellent benefits package.
