The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Historian in the Office of the Director (OD), Office of Legislative and Public Affairs (OLPA), Arlington, VA. The individual selected for this position will serve as the NSF Historian who will research, write and prepare for publication a scholarly administrative, legislative and institutional history of the NSF. You will perform related historical research, writing and advisory tasks for Foundation staff and the National Science Board. You will provide advice and serve as an institutional memory within NSF and also provide advice to and perform liaison functions with other agencies of the government, nongovernmental organizations and private individuals in matters relating to the Foundation’s history.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in History, plus after award of the Ph.D., six or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position; OR a Master’s degree in History, plus after award of the degree, eight or more years of successful research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position. Professional experience in the field of modern United States history or directly related fields is highly desirable. Experience in researching and/or writing about STEM related topics is a plus.
