H-Net Network on Science, Medicine and Technology
Job Type: Government/Non-Profit
Application Deadline: May 31, 2015
The H-Net Network on Science, Medicine and Technology is looking to expand its (much reduced) editorial team, now that the network has completed its move to the new H-Net Commons platform. As an editor you will moderate submissions and facilitate discussion on the list, but also develop new initiatives around the H-SMT platform. The new H-Sci-Med-Tech has the potential to be much more than a listserv; it supports a variety of media (images, videos and podcasts) and can host blogs and other interactive formats. The Network wishes to talk to colleagues with ideas, keen to take advantage of the new platform and take the network into new directions.
The Network is looking for candidates with backgrounds in history of science, medicine and/or technology, or in social studies of science, medicine and/or technology; preferably, though not necessarily, with a PhD. The work is suitable for junior scholars: many current and past editors started editing when they were junior postdocs or graduate students.
H-SMT is a service for the entire scholarly community that, like other H-Net Networks runs on volunteer labor. Traditionally, the editors have served on a rotating schedule of one week per month, requiring 2-3 hours of effort during that week, though the division of responsibilities may shift as we become comfortable with the new editorial platform.
H-Net will provide training in using the editorial platform, and an H-SMT advisory board of retired editors supports the activity of the editorial team.
If this appeals to you, please send an email outlining why you are interested in joining us and what you might bring to the network, along with a CV, to firstname.lastname@example.org
Please send informal inquiries to email@example.com
The provisional deadline for this call is 31 May 2015.
