Full-time instructors are sought to teach the course Science, Technology, and Society, and possibly other related courses in the Faculty of Engineering at Bilkent University in Ankara. The course is required of all engineering majors and is taken by over 500 students each year. It covers a breadth of topics such as: ethics in engineering, history and philosophy of science and technology, political positions and science and technology issues, science and religion, energy, ecology, population, health and technology, intellectual property, technological disasters, responsibilities of scientists and engineers, technology and the democratic process, historical and contemporary critical attitudes towards technology; information technology and its consequences: work, the structure of organizations and society, economics, security, privacy, reliability, and social control, effects on human psychology and social relationships.
Prospective instructors should be prepared to cover and review such subjects at a level suitable for a breadth course. Candidates with different backgrounds will be considered. A degree in engineering is highly desirable.
