The Department of History and Philosophy of Medicine is recruiting to its faculty a mid-level scholar in the history of science and medicine, medical ethics, science studies, or social sciences of science and medicine. The position will entail leadership of the KU Medical Center initiative for training and education in research ethics. The ideal candidate will have a record of research and publication in the appropriate discipline and a commitment to build a nationally-recognized body of scholarly work. This recruitment is a collaborative effort with the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research for the University of Kansas Medical Center.
A doctoral degree in the appropriate field and demonstrated leadership in research ethics is required. Candidates must have demonstrated the ability to pursue an independent line of research and publication appropriate to pursue tenure at the Medical Center. Expertise in responsible conduct of research and experience in an academic medical center are strongly favored.
Duties include the following:
- Assume responsibility for the direction and continued development of a campus-wide program of research ethics education, training and support
- Develop and lead a responsible conduct of research course for KUMC
- Help to develop research ethics within the School of Medicine curriculum and assist with elective medical student teaching and advising within the Department of History and Philosophy of Medicine
- Direct the departmental Clendening Summer Fellowships for 8-12 students annually
- Pursue grant funding for research in an appropriate discipline
