The Department of History at Swarthmore College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor in modern European history to begin with the fall semester of 2017. Applicants should hold a Ph.D. by the time of appointment. Applicants specializing in environmental history or histories of science and technology are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates are expected to offer a range of courses including survey courses, first-year seminars, upper-division courses on modern European history as well as courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. Interested candidates should submit a letter of application, c.v., and three letters of recommendation. The cover letter should discuss their teaching experience, style, and objectives, and describe their interest in teaching at a liberal arts college. In addition, applicants should outline their research interests, now and in the future, and indicate why they believe they are prepared to teach students of diverse backgrounds.
