The Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences (IKBSAS) at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will be held in the Department of History and Sociology and is expected to start on July 1, 2020.

We are seeking candidates with scholarly interest and expertise in the fields of Science and Technology. The geographical field is open. Candidates must have a PhD in History, a strong record of research productivity, and demonstrated potential to attract external funding. They must also demonstrate a commitment to student mentoring and supervision; excellence in undergraduate teaching and learning; and evidence of, or interest in, effective graduate teaching appropriate to career stage. They are also expected to show evidence of commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful, collegial, and conducive learning and working environment.

The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an active research program that enhances existing expertise in the department, complements established and emerging research strengths within the Faculty, and is well-integrated into the campus’ areas of strategic research focus. Teaching duties will include introductory courses in the history of science and the history of technology, and advanced courses in the candidate’s field of study. Service expectations will be commensurate with rank.

  4. A one-page statement of teaching philosophy and interests;
