The Philosophy Department in the College of Liberal Arts at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, California, seeks applications for a full-time, academic-year, tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin September 12, 2019. Area of Specialization (AOS): Ethics and philosophy of computing. Area of Competence (AOC): Ethical theory. Primary duties include teaching ethics, science, and technology. Depending on background and preparation, the successful candidate also will develop and teach courses in theoretical ethics, as well as in more specialized areas to complement course offerings related to science and technology; existing courses include Robot Ethics, Philosophy of Internet, Technologies & Ethics of Warfare, and others. The ideal candidate will have a combination of education, external grant writing and administration, and university-level teaching experience. We are seeking applicants with an earned doctorate, or nearing completion of the doctorate, in philosophy, as well as with demonstrable qualifications in computer-related ethics.
