The American Astronautical Society (AAS) is a non-profit professional society dedicated to advancing all space activities. AAS is seeking outstanding candidates for the position of Executive Director in early 2017. The selected individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Society and will report to the elected President and Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the supervision and direction of the administrative staff of the AAS Business Office, located in Springfield, Virginia, and for management of the Society’s financial and physical resources. He/she serves as an ex-officio member of special and standing committees and is responsible for monitoring all scheduled meetings and activities of the Society. The Executive Director serves in a critical position in fostering the effective execution of the Society’s mission. Accordingly, the successful candidate must demonstrate an established record of outstanding administrative management, conference planning and communications skills including use of social media. A broad understanding of the United States and international space programs, from the perspective of professionals in government, industry and academia, is required. Experience working for and/or with non-profit organizations is desirable and previous experience with the AAS and its activities would be useful but is not essential.
