October 3-6, 2019, Portland, OR, USA
Forty-Third Annual Conference of the German Studies Association
Coordinators: Kristen Ehrenberger, Michael Hau, Heikki Lempa & Jill Suzanne Smith
The coordinators of the new Body Studies Network of the GSA invite proposals for panels and individual papers with a broad focus on the body in German art and visual culture, history (including but not limited to dance history, the history of health, medicine, sports, and gender and sexuality), film, literature, media, and politics. Panels can focus on presentations from one or two disciplines or sub-disciplines, or they can work on transdisciplinary themes.
We are particularly interested in panels that bridge chronological and disciplinary divides and/or investigate the German body, be it as dissemination of German body discourse and practices of the body or (re)definitions and (re)orientations stemming from global encounters. We welcome proposals that range from medieval and early modern periods to the present.
Please send questions and abstracts (300 words) and a short bio by January 10, 2019 to: firstname.lastname@example.org.
