March 8-9, 2019, Friday Harbor Labs, San Juan Island, WA, USA
The CHSG has been meeting for over 30 years in the beautiful San Juan Islands. The Group has a long tradition of providing a congenial environment for scholars to share ideas about new projects and for graduate students to present their work, all while enjoying the camaraderie and inspiring environment of the Pacific Northwest.
We are very excited that Professor Leah Ceccarelli will be delivering this year’s Nancy and Norman Benson Keynote Lecture on the first evening of the meeting.

Call for papers
Please submit a one page, single-spaced proposal that outlines the topic you propose to present. E-mail your proposal by Friday, January 18 to the program organizers for the 2019 meeting, Crystal Lee and Nathan Kapoor.
In their selection of papers, the CHSG program chairs consider a range of factors. Of course, the quality of the proposal is key. In addition, selection is based on the goal of putting together a program that includes scholars from a range of institutions and backgrounds, topics from a range of time periods and disciplines, and students or scholars who have not presented at recent CHSG meetings.
The CHSG conference at Friday Harbor is a small meeting, with a limited number of presenters (usually 9). Graduate students are reminded that they will be presenting in front of leading academic scholars, as well as their peers. While the CHSG meeting is known for its less formal tone, the academic rigor of the presentations is taken very seriously. Thus, the organizers request that presenters make every effort to prepare a professional talk. If you are a graduate student, and first time presenter, we encourage you to apply, but if your paper is accepted we strongly recommend that you practice your presentation in advance with your home department or with your advisor. This will not only ensure the quality of the presentations, it will also help you get the most constructive feedback on your work.
