May 28-29, 2020, Lisbon, Portugal
We are pleased to announce that the 3rd international conference of the Quarantine Studies Network will be held in Lisbon on May 28 and 29 2020, organized jointly by the CIDEHUS of the University of Évora and the CIUHCT of the University of Lisbon.
Under the title Matters of containment. Material aspects of the handling of threats in the modern world, the conference will bring together more than 30 international researchers to reflect in an interdisciplinary way on the material aspects of the “containment” strategies historically used against sanitary, environmental, social, military threats, political or ideological that often associate with each other. The topics to be discussed will range from anti-epidemic quarantines (once again in the public eye at the present time), to the management of chemical and nuclear waste, through measures taken to check the “contagion” of social movements, humanitarian crises or political ideas, all for the period between 1750 and today.
