INTERNSHIP: Pugwash archive of historical photographs

Pugwash Conferences on Science and International Affairs has a long and
distinguished history of bringing together all sides in pursuit of
disarmament, elimination of weapons of mass destruction and promotion of
peaceful settlement of international disputes. Pugwash and its most eminent
spokesperson, Joseph Rotblat, jointly won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1995.
Until his death in 2005, Professor Rotblat worked in the current office of
British Pugwash at 63A Great Russell Street in London. His papers are now
lodged in the archives of Churchill College, Cambridge, but the Pugwash
collection of photographs, newsletters and memorabilia remains in the London
office.
British Pugwash, together with Sandra Ionno Butcher, head of the Pugwash
History Project, has recently started a project to organise and digitise the
extensive photo collection. The work is being carried out by staff,
Executive Committee members and volunteers.
We are seeking an intern to carry on the work of archiving and researching
this historic photographic collection.
As part of this opportunity, the intern will receive training on using the
database, digitising and conserving photographs and carrying out historical
research on individual images.
Conditions:
§ A commitment to work a minimum of 5 hours per week for a minimum of
6 months.
§ After 3 months, Pugwash and the intern will evaluate the progress
being made.
§ Pugwash will provide a letter of commendation when the internship is
complete.
§ The intern will work in the London office of British Pugwash in
Great Russell Street, opposite the British Museum.
§ A contribution will be made to travel expenses within London.

§ Photo research
§ Liaising with others involved in the project
Requirements:
§ Good working knowledge of the English language
§ Familiarity with Microsoft Office programmes, including a basic
knowledge of Access
