Visiting Assistant Professor in History

Deadline: Review of applications will begin upon receipt and continue until the position is filled

Requirements: The History Department at the University of Alabama in Huntsville is seeking a colleague for a one year position as visiting assistant professor in the history of science and technology outside the U.S beginning 18 August 2010. Teaching responsibilities include freshman world-history surveys and upper-division and graduate courses in the candidate’s specialty. Candidates should have completed the Ph.D. or be ABD with anticipated completion by July 2011, and should have a strong commitment to teaching. The teaching load is three courses per semester. The University is developing a program in Science and Technology in Society (STS), and the successful candidate will play an important role in that process. Huntsville is a community with an economy that relies on high tech, with contractors servicing a major NASA installation and the Army’s Redstone Arsenal. The College of Liberal Arts also has programs in Global Studies/Study Abroad and Women’s Studies, and the History Department is developing one in public history. It is recommended that applications be received before 30 June 2010 to ensure full consideration.
