Advertising

The History of Science Society offers advertisers several opportunities to connect to our membership:

The Society does not currently accept world wide web or internet advertisements. We reserve the right to evaluate any ads for their appropriateness and suitably for our members.

The HSS Newsletter

Advertising in the Newsletter offers the easiest way to reach all members of our diverse membership. Circulating amongst nearly 3,000 avid readers and book buyers around the world, the Newsletter is a favorite advertising buy for publishing houses and university presses.

The Newsletter is published in January, April, July, and October. All individual members of the Society receive the Newsletter, as well as many libraries. Advertisements are accepted on a space-available basis only, and the Society reserves the right not to accept a submission. The rates are as follows:

All advertising copy must be submitted as either .pdf. .eps .jpg, or .tif. The deadline for insertion orders and camera-ready copy is six weeks prior to the month of publication (e.g., November 15 for the January Newsletter) and should be sent to newsletter@hssonline.org.

The Program for the Annual Meeting

The Program reaches the 550 to 900+ attendees at our annual meeting. Your ad in the program also offers an excellent way to remind historians of science to visit your table if you're exhibiting at our meeting.

Rates for Program Advertisements

Electronic copy due 1 September.

Inserts in Delegate Packets

Inserts are a popular way of informing meeting attendees about new publications, organization membership offers, or services of value to historians of science. You provide the inserts, and for very reasonable rates we'll include them in the registration packets attendees receive.

Rates for Delegate Packet Inserts:
$40.00 per 100 inserts

For more information on advertising at the annual meeting, please see our meeting pages.

Exhibiting at the Annual Meeting

Each year a dozen or more publishers sell thousands of dollars of books during our annual meeting. Whether you've got one table or ten, our annual meeting is the place to display your new titles in history and the sciences. We schedule regular coffee breaks in the exhibit hall to ensure high visibility. It's a great chance to talk with professors before they choose titles for their classes.

If you don't have a table worth of books, we also offer a collective book exhibit. You send us a copy of the book(s), and we'll set up an attractive display with other titles that may attract perspective buyers. We also provide an HSS meeting staff member to supervise and answer questions.

Rates for exhibiting at the Annual Meeting:

Orders received after 31 August cost an additional $50.00.

For more information on Exhibiting at the Annual Meeting, please see our meeting pages.

Sponsoring a Reception or Coffee Break

Sponsoring a reception or coffee break connects your name to our delegates at their most receptive moment--while they're eating and relaxed!

HSS Executive Director Jay Malone would be delighted to speak personally with you regarding receptions. Please call him at 352-392-1677 to discuss the opportunities. Groups like the Cambridge University Press and the University of Wisconsin Science Studies Program have sponsored coffee breaks and receptions in the past.
